Unidos por Ecuador of Central Florida: Ambassadors of their country in Orlando who bring joy to their people

The love we have for the people of our country prompts us to work from afar to help children and families in need and, in turn, strengthen our Ecuadorian community in Central Florida.

Thus, the non-profit organization “Unidos por Ecuador of Central Florida” (United for Ecuador of Central Florida) was born with that mission in 2012. Throughout this time, we organized different events to counsel and provide services to Ecuadorians and other residents of the area: The Consulado Móvil de Ecuador (Mobile Consulate) of Ecuador in Orlando, the celebrations of the Ecuadorian Civic Week commemorating the Independence of Ecuador, Christmas Party, Three Kings Day, health fairs, immigration workshops and their active participation in support of local Hispanic organizations.

“We are very proud of the achievements we have obtained so far. We have been characterized by working quietly, always offering our friendly hand to all, whether or not they are Ecuadorians, believing that if someone comes to us with a need or concern to guide them and above all, to give them the necessary tools, depending on each case”,

said Ketty Orellana, Director and Founder of the group.

Her husband, Franklin Muñoz, shares that same desire to serve their country and proudly wears the country’s typical Guayabera shirt from Guayaquil, a city of Ecuador, and Ketty is elegantly dressed in her typical dress made of Ecuadorian fabric; both wearing hats made in Ecuador, during the patriotic events.

“We are proud to wear the typical clothing of our land, to have people learn about our culture, what Ecuador is about. We are beautiful, kind people, with a country full of riches and with open arms to tourists. We want many of those who live in Orlando to go visit our country,” said Orellana, an entrepreneur with an office in Casselberry.

Some of their meetings are even held in the Ecuadorian restaurant “Rincón Latino” (Latin corner), in Orlando, to promote the place that prepares delicious Ecuadorian dishes such as: guatita, seco de pollo, shrimp ceviche, caldo de bola, shrimp soup, among others.

“That’s what it’s all about: helping each other. We believe in supporting small businesspersons, our people, those interested in our country. We have Hispanics from other countries who love Ecuador because they have families there. We have Puerto Ricans married to Ecuadorians, Caucasians who, once they see the videos we show them of Ecuador, are already planning to go and visit. We are ambassadors of our land”, emphasized Muñoz.

Among our charitable work is the shipment of donations to an orphanage in Guayaquil, which included medical equipment, medicines, first necessity items, toys, clothes and things that are useful for children with special needs.

“We are going to keep growing. We want to send help to reach more of our people. By blessing more families, we have been fortunate to have donations from Florida Hospital, Toys for Tots in Orlando, and other organizations who kindly believe in our projects”, added Orellana.

The group traveled to Tallahassee to show their support to immigrant families against an anti-immigrant law and participates in activities representing their country. They have their radio program, which is broadcasted every Friday at 7:00 pm. The group is looking for volunteers, so if anyone wants to serve or become a member, they can call: 407-951-5184 or join their Facebook page: Unidos por Ecuador Central Florida.
